Alphabet has announced a new public Wi-Fi initiative called Google Station. The platform is an extension of work done in India providing Wi-Fi to millions of users at train stations, and the tech giant is now looking to make similar arrangements at universities, malls and other public areas around the world. Google (GOOG, GOOGL) will be able to monetize its hotspots in various ways, including access fees and ads, or it can make them free.
