While accepting short-term debt relief from the eurozone Tuesday, Greece asked Germany and the International Monetary Fund not to make its bailout negotiations contingent on austerity measures beyond 2018. “They must stop insisting on continuing a policy of extreme austerity, which has been proven destructive for society and also economically ineffective,” government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said.
