French bank Societe Generale reported a drop in net profit in the fourth quarter of 2016, reaching €390 million, compared with €656 million in the previous year, due to heavier taxes and a loss on the sale of its Croatian subsidiary, OTP Bank. However, analysts had expected the shortfall to be greater and the final figure is seen as a sign of an upturn in the eurozone economy.
