Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) will begin taking orders for its solar roof tiles next month, CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Friday.
TSLA introduced the solar-powered roof shingles last October in leading up to the shareholder vote on the company’s acquisition of SolarCity.
Musk revealed no new details on cost, but he has said the new roof tiles will cost less to manufacture and install than a traditional roof, even before savings from the power bill.
Even so, the roof tiles likely will be a premium product, as the terra cotta and slate roofs TSLA is mimicking are among the most expensive roofing materials on the market, costing as much as 20x more than cheap asphalt shingles.
