Banks missing out on stock market gains

Despite record-setting growth in the stock market, US banks saw a 13% drop in equity trading revenue in 2016, according to data from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a trend that has continued into the first quarter. The increased popularity of electronic trading can account for some of the shortfall, Morgan Stanley and Oliver Wyman suggested in a recent report.
