Instagram is the fourth Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) title to reach the milestone on Google Play following Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp.
The number is not reflective of unique installs, though only 19 other offerings have reached the “1,000,000,000 – 5,000,000,000” install category on the platform. Comparably, Snapchat and Twitter fall into 100,000,000 – 500,000,000 and 500,000,000 – 1,000,000,000 levels, respectively.
Instagram in June recorded 500M monthly users and 300M daily active users.
